oKo is the industry federation for the arts. oKo unites, informs and takes positions.
About oKo
The oKo-network (overleg kunstenorganisaties) consists of more then 240 members, all professional arts organizations in Flanders and Brussels, engaged in the creation, production, distribution, participation and/or the support of arts. They are working in various disciplines: audiovisual arts, visual arts, education, music, performing arts and social-artistic work.
Members each have one vote in the General Assembly. They also meet in disciplinary working groups, that are represented in the Board of Directors. By working together in the oKo-network, the members strive to strengthen the independent position of the arts in modern society. They exchange information and share knowledge about all aspects of both the artistic and business side of arts. Together they take positions in order to ensure decent working and employment conditions, good art policy and a favorable social climate.
Advocate, employers federation and network
Shaping arts policy at all levels has traditionally been the working field of oKo. After all, it’s not only the Flemish government that for a large part determines the position and potential role of arts in society. The other governments, federal, local or European, determine the outlines of art policy to a great extent as well. When more than 200 arts organizations come together for the benefit of the arts, there are naturally many topics to discuss in which oKo can fully play its role as an advocate and employers federation. The members are the driving force.
